In today’s financial world, fraud is a huge concern for debit and credit card users. Like you, we don’t take this concern lightly.  Here’s what we can do together to help protect your accounts. 

Debit Card Security

Fraud Prevention Services

We have fraud prevention services which provide notification (by e-mail, text and phone call) to alert you of possible fraudulent activity associated with your card.

 Here’s how it works:

  1. When potential fraud is detected, you will receive an automatic email notification with the option to reply with “fraud” or “no fraud.”
  2. One minute after the email, you will receive a text alert from 96923 between 7 am and 9 pm EST, which also has the “fraud” or “no fraud” option.
  3. If there is no response five minutes after the text alert, you will receive automatic phone calls to confirm or deny fraud.

Remember, our messages will NEVER ask for your PIN or account number.

The phone number for the Fraud Center is 1.800.237.8990. If you add this number to your phone contacts and label it “Fraud Center,” it will display whenever you get a call from this number.

Bank Initiated Hot-Carding

Our fraud center quickly blocks a card to prevent further transactions after known fraud occurs. To block a card call 1.888.237.3416 .

 Customer Initiated Hot Carding

We also offer convenient methods for immediate customer deactivation of a card if it is lost or stolen.  This action can be taken through Online Banking, our Mobile AppiTalk or by calling 1.888.297.3416.

Instant Card Issuance 

We have debit card machines in some of our branches. These machines will enable Security Federal to offer reduced turnaround time (24 hours or less) if your card needs immediate replacement.

Steps you can take to protect yourself:

  1. Check your account balance regularly to detect irregularities
  2. Use your pin whenever the option is available
  3. Opt-in for transaction text alerts
  4. Use your mobile phone or other rapid means to immediately deactivate a card when required



Debit Card Fraud and Blocks

Due to an increase in fraudulent transactions, we have implemented various blocks to protect our customers from unauthorized and fraudulent transactions. We understand this may be an inconvenience to some of you, but we have your best interest in mind when implementing these blocks. Listed below are some of our current blocks.


Blocked Merchants

  • Variety Stores – Transactions over $100 where chip terminal is not using chip card feature
  • Spring Airlines – All Transactions
  • Third Party Electronic Money Transfers (ex. Square, CashApp, PayPal, etc.) All Amounts

**Attention** Blocked Debit Cards does not mean you cannot continue to use “Cash App” products.  You will be required to use your bank information such as: the bank’s routing number (253271822), your checking account number, and “NOT” your Debit Card number when utilizing a “Cash App”.  Another option is to use your “Credit Card” as a “Cash App”.

  • Gas Stations – Must use chip reader if the option is available
  • Walmart – Must use chip reader if option is available
  • Skyticket.JP – All Transactions
  • Coolblue –All Transactions


Blocked Countries

  • Cuba – All Transactions
  • Kenya – Must use chip reader
  • The Netherlands – Electronic gaming transactions
